The Civilian Squad is for people who want to help fight crime or prevent the loss of innocent lives. While the more involved work should be left to the professionals, there are many volunteer opportunities and small things you can do that will make a huge difference.

Why? I love true crime. Twisted serial killer stories, documentaries about unsolved murders, etc. I even blog about it. But the sad thing is that behind all these fascinating stories is someone losing a family member or friend. I want to create a resource that enables true crime fanatics like myself to not only listen to and watch these stories to derive entertainment from them, but also do something about the problem. Just like with any problem in society, there are things we can do, no matter how small. Who’s to say that small acts, like reporting suspicious behavior or donating blood can’t help catch criminals or aide victims and their families?

The goal of The Civilian Squad is not only to help solve crimes, but prevent rape and domestic violence and increase the accountability to rapists and abusers. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NACDV), On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. The NACDV also estimates that the presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500%.
